This is my second year taking ceramics, and I have been working to improve my skills and create more detailed pieces. Last year, my collection consisted of bowls and plates, or pieces that could be functional at home because I wanted to be able to use pieces that I made myself. This year, I wanted to explore more into decorative art, so I created a set of vases of different shapes, sizes, and colors. I wanted to improve my ceramics skills while also creating pieces I could display at home. My process in creating this body of work was to first throw as many pieces as I could, and then experiment with different forms. I then wanted to add surface design to my pieces, so I either carved into some of them or added handles because I had done that to other pieces I made and I liked the way it turned out. For glazing, I decided to glaze each of my pieces in different shades of blue because I like the color and how calming it is. I didn’t want all of the pieces to be the same color, but I wanted them to be cohesive. This semester, I have learned a lot more about clay and creating pieces that I like over the semester. I plan to continue this skill by taking IB art, and learning how to create pieces that are much more detailed and advanced.
